Course Details
This course is intended to serve as an introduction to the topic of addiction. It is targeted at problems associated with substance abuse, focusing on the role substance use plays in our society, some of the physiology and history of drug use and abuse. We will also explore the concept of addiction as it extends beyond drugs to other behaviors; gambling, sex, spending, violence, etc. We will deepen our understanding of addiction as psychological, physiological, cultural, and spiritual. We will learn about specific addictions, common misconceptions, definitions and criteria for diagnosis. We will trace the changing view of addiction, and explore assessment and therapeutic approaches to treatment and prevention.

Additional Information

After practicing psychotherapy for 25 years in Vermont, in 2005 I began to travel around North America, Europe and Israel offering workshops in a variety of topics ranging from Permaculture to meditation practices, in addition to offering psychology courses online. I continue to travel and teach online as well as in person.
